Impian Films was created with the guiding principles of "hopes and dreams".
Stephen Van Mil founded the independent Australian film production company; its head office is in Perth, Western Australia. Impian Films' first feature film is based on the multi-award winning novel The Drowner by Robert Drewe. Development began in 2008 with pre-production underway in 2010. Production is expected to begin in 2011.
West Australian filmmaker Stephen is producing the feature film with Mel Gibson and Bruce Davey's Icon Productions, and has contracted renowned Australian-based screenwriter John Collee (Master and Commander, Happy Feet, Creation) for the script adaptation, and Robert Jones (The Usual Suspects, Gosford Park, The Constant Gardener) as UK co-producer. Stephen Van Mil also founded Animal Media Australia after 20 years experience in television, print and film.
Previous productions include:
• White Lions - King of Kings (2006) for Discovery Network/Animal Planet International
• Saving Orangutans for the Ten Network Australia.
• In conjunction with Fork Films, the award winning The Last Trimate (2008) was a world-released documentary narrated by Mel Gibson and featuring the amazing life work of Birute Mary Galdikas and orangutans in Indonesia.
Upcoming projects include:
• The Drowner - WA's largest feature film production to date - a languid and classic tale of love, passion, madness, death and human frailty, set against the gold crazed mining boom of the late 1800s in the waterless and desperate WA outback..
• Shallows - Based on true events, this feature film uses family generations of the town of Albany to explore the evolution of its long-standing whaling past, to Australia's best example of whale conservation.
• Black Honeymoon - This action thriller follows a newlywed couple, pulled from Paris by love and a honeymoon and thrust deep into the Congo, where both bride and groom are in danger...especially from each other's darkest secrets.
• Big Fish a global odyssey to unravel the mystery of the remarkable whale shark, the biggest fish in our oceans

Katherine Nash, Production Manager
Katherine has wanted to work in the film industry since she found out the people on Play School get paid. After discovering that her acting had all the subtlety and nuance of a demented kangaroo in a stained glass window factory, she looked to working behind the camera, starting with media studies in high school.
Katherine then attended Murdoch University and completed a double degree: a Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies and a Bachelor of Multimedia. She specialised in cinematography and scriptwriting, and deciding the former was more her thing, she then completed a Certificate IV in Photography.
After several long years of encouraging people to "smile!", her innate ability to meticulously file documents and write tedious, but inspiring, funding applications resulted in an awesome job at Impian Films as their production manager. Attempts to usurp her position will result in duel by trident.
